Welcome to Saugerties High School Club Hockey!! Saugerties HS club teams compete in the HVHSIHA League. We will compete against other HS club teams from Newburgh and Poughkeepsie areas. Please read the FAQs below for more information.
Where
Where are practices and games typically held?
Practices and home games are held at the Kiwanis Ice Arena. Games are also played at the Icetime Sports Complex in Newburgh and the Mid-Hudson Civics Center (McCann Ice Arena) in Poughkeepsie.

When are practices nights?
Practices will be held on Wednesday evenings from 8:45-945pm.
Games
How many games will they play? What days of the week?
Teams will play approximately 16-20 games over the course of the season. Games typically fall on the weekends (Friday-Sunday)
Jerseys
Are jerseys provided or are they purchased separately?
HS jerseys/shells are required and may be purchased online. More info to come after tryouts are complete.
Extra Costs
What costs beyond registration fees should be expected?
- Expect SYHA to collect funds to cover any overages in team registration costs.(Our team registration costs are projections based on previous seasons that may be exceeded due to rising HVHSIHA league costs, which are out of our control)
- Expect SYHA to collect funds to cover Varsity tournament bound fees if applicable.

Q: Who is eligible to play Saugerties High School Hockey?
A: Players in 8th grade and higher living in Ulster and Greene Counties (with some exceptions that are made by the HVHSIHA Board)
Q: What League does Saugerties High School play with?
A: The Hudson Valley High School Ice Hockey Association (HVHSIHA)
Q: What do High School teams look like?
A: Teams and Composition:
JV Team--8th, 9th, 10th (and certain 11th grade players may be eligible.) but may vary depending on numbers at each grade level.
Swing Players--are JV players and if needed are used to supplement the Varsity Team.
Varsity Team-- intended for 9th-12th grade players but may vary depending on numbers at each grade level.
Q: Do all eligible high school players make a high school team?
A: No, There are no guarantees during the tryout process. Cuts may be made depending on team requirements. Playing on a high school team last season does not guarantee a spot this season.
Q: Are 8th grade players eligible for high school hockey
A: Yes, however player eligibility requirements do apply. Players may only be rostered on a Varsity roster for 4 years.
Q: What is the High School practice schedule?
A: Both HS teams will practice on Wednesday evenings from 8:45-9:45pm.
HS practices end in February, so as not to interfere with other local HS spring sports.
Q: What is the HS game schedule?
A: Saugerties typically plays each opposing team 4 times (subject to change based on number of teams in the HVHSIHA). There are typically 5-6 HS club teams--Saugerties, FDR, Arlington, John Jay, Washingtonville, Orange County West (OCW).
Rinks used are Kiwanis, Icetime, and McCann.
Games are typically held on weekends (Friday-Sunday)

Regular season games start in October and end in January/early February.
Q: Is there a separate uniform required?
A: YES. High School uniform fittings/ordering will be held following tryouts. More info will be provided regarding dates and times following tryouts.
Q: Can my player play on both Bantam, Midget and High School teams?
A: Yes, basically your player will be playing on two separate teams that are managed by our coaches to prevent conflicts. This is considered a wrap team. Additional costs are associated as your player will play two full hockey schedules. Wrap team gets 40+ games, and 2-4 night per week practices.
Q: What does a typical High School season cost?
A: Approximately $1100.00-$1500.00
These prices can and do change depending on the number of players per team and league costs.
Q: What goes into cost for HS players?
A: HVHSIHA sets a HS League fee of approximately $25,000+ per team. In addition, there are SYHA practice and associated team/admin fees
